Texture

A variety of methods can be used to work with clay using multiple decorative techniques to enhance and stylise the object made.

At Malki we like to celebrate different cultures and civilizations in our world of adornments by imprinting and enriching clay bodies with motifs and textures found in things such as Bedouin embroidery, ancient silverware, and wood blocks found in markets in the course of our travelling.

The introduction, by means of pressing, stamping, and embedding materials into the clay surface, increases our texture vocabulary and breadth of dialog encompassing different cultures and nations.

From cloth, raw linen, and silk embroidered saris to Bedouin tapestries, found objects, and locally sourced natural materials such as seaweeds, drift wood and foliage—Malki Studio engages respectfully and lovingly with the natural world and the wreath of people that surround us.
