Adam Anderson

Malki Studio jeweler, performance artist and co-founder Adam Anderson.

Jeweller, Artist and Doctor of Philosophy

Adam Anderson’s PhD in art examined identity through the influences of fetish and costume in performance art. Adam’s practice is divergent but is centred on the body.

He incorporates painting, drawing, performance art, photography, projection, video and animation, makeup, costumery, and various wearable objects such as accessories and jewellery. What sustains Adam’s practice is the effect of various objects on identity and the way in which this relationship can be used to explore, learn, and gain respect for oneself, others, and the environment.

The jewellery and wearable objects that Adam creates possess fetishistic qualities—that is, they modify one’s experience of one’s body beyond the normal, and they are imbued with an ambivalent spiritual or transcendental power that is transferred to the wearer. Adam’s jewellery is often intentionally difficult to wear but it is always robust and full of attitude.

Adam has exhibited his work in London, Hong Kong, Israel, and throughout Australia, won an international prize for ethical metalsmithing, taught at the Queensland College of Art, and contributed to publications for places such as the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art.

Ariella Anderson

Malki Studio jeweler, ceramic artist and co-founder Ariella Anderson.

Ceramic Artist, Public Art Sculptor and Muralist

Ariella Anderson has been working with clay for over 20 years. Her work has been commissioned for resorts and private collections, most recently producing large ceramic murals and sculptural work for schools in the Bundaberg region.

Specialising in Raku—an ancient Japanese firing—Ariella strives to preserve the unique properties of clay as an expressive medium. Ariella’s ceramic vessels echo the landscape in form and colour, further enhanced using copper glazes as surface treatment.

Having lived in Israel, Paris and Australia has been a vital part of Ariella’s work progression, consolidating the influences of her personal narrative and cultural heritage.

Ariella’s work was published in the popular international book series “500 Raku,” and has contributed her expertise to the production of educational material for Ulster University in the United Kingdom. She has also exhibited in the United States, Israel, and Australia wide, has been included in multiple publications, won the Moreton Bay Sculpture Award, and is in a number of collections throughout the country.

Lia Anderson

Malki Studio jeweler, product designer and co-founder Lia Anderson.

Jeweller and Product Designer

Lia Anderson is an artist and designer with an applied science background and has recently completed her Bachelor of Design in the historic Queensland College of Art (Griffith University) in Brisbane.

Specialising in product design, Lia’s fusion of creative and analytical thinking has enabled her to design and make a variety of objects—such as laser cut furniture, innovative light fixtures, sculptural objects, computer modelled and 3D printed jewellery, shoes, a self-cooling jacket, glasses (spectacles), and even easily reproduced ventilators as a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lia’s understanding of new technologies and product design take on new meanings when applied to her art jewellery, which is emotional and intimate yet fierce, bold, and possessive of a protective, amuletic aura.

Lia has exhibited her work in Hong Kong, in the United States for the Society of North American Goldsmiths, has been a finalist in the Stanthorpe Art Prize, and the recipient of the Lawson Gems Award.
