Terracotta Containment Vessel
Pendant/Art Object and Cord: hand built terracotta vessel, responsibly sourced and recycled sterling silver, cord.
The Containment Vessel series is a suite of small hand built ceramic vessels, produced primarily in the ancient form of amphorae (traditionally used to store wine, oil, or other fluids considered precious in the ancient world). They each serve a mystical or magical purpose aimed at protecting their owner through the power of containment. While some are sealed with specific intent, other Containment Vessels, such as this one, remain unsealed as a means of allowing the owner to determine the focus of the vessel’s protection.
The Terracotta Containment Vessel evokes ancient historical ceramic containers, the shards of which give evidence of human habitation and can be found in innumerable ancient sites throughout the world. In the Jewish Tradition, an important ancient ceramic vessel relates directly to the miracle of Hannukah, as the sole surviving container of the sacred and pure olive oil used to light the Menorah of the Jewish Temple. The protection offered by this Containment Vessel thus relates to the longevity of ceramics and their sacred contents, showing us that that which is precious is worth protecting.
Malki Studio invites the buyer of this vessel to imbue it with something sacred, be it physical or abstract, keeping it close to one’s heart and mind. May it be a source of comfort, an act of self-care, or a wish to put out into the world and have manifest in the tangible form of the ceramic vessel.
Approximate vessel dimensions: 4.5cm x 2.5cm x 4.3cm.
Approximate cord length: 87cm.
