The Containment Vessel series is a suite of small hand built ceramic vessels, produced primarily in the ancient form of amphorae (traditionally used to store wine, oil, or other fluids considered precious in the ancient world). They each serve a mystical or magical purpose aimed at protecting their owner through the power of containment.
The Fire of Earth Containment Vessel is intended as a containment of the grounding and stabilising power of earth in service of providing spiritual protection. The vessel has been sealed with 7 beads (3 pearls, 3 silver granules, and 1 copper granule), the number 7 being a significant symbol in the Jewish mystic tradition known as Kabbalah. According to this tradition, 7 is the number that represents the natural world. This meaning corresponds with Malki Studio’s recurring use of ceramics as a metonym for earth, which is also paid respect to through our use of natural gemstones and environmentally conscious sourcing of materials.
