Art Object: white clay, oxides, and copper glazes.
Built of one solid piece of clay, the Sanctuary Collection allude to the precious need of all living things to have a place of safety, a place of refuge and wellbeing - a sanctuary.
The clay was textured using the foliage of a young Golden Cane palm and compressed into shape. It was then cut and hollowed out creating an internal hidden space.
Once fired, the vessel was further decorated using multiple glazes and layered oxides through multiple firings in order to achieve the iridescent shimmering surface.
It is about finding that fine balance between the elements, but always about reaching a place of safety.
