Necklace: titanium, responsibly sourced sterling silver, repurposed amethyst, lapis lazuli, garnet, onyx, carnelian, sodalite.
This handmade necklace is intended as a contemporary take on the ancient and ubiquitous motif of the evil eye. The inclusion of (strong but lightweight) heat coloured titanium perfectly matches the beautiful blue and purple hues of the lapis lazuli and garnet beads used throughout the necklace. In stark contrast, the brightness of the silver and the fiery orange of the carnelian pop out and create attention-grabbing visual tension. Using traditionally Mediterranean gemstones, such as lapis, carnelian, and garnet, focuses on the evil eye motif as it is seen in this part of the world, while the titanium and asymmetry of the necklace speak to a contemporary sensibility and aesthetic.
